Hey.

I'm doing a system rebuild and I need a new motherboard.

I'm looking at getting a Phenom II1090T, but I really couldn't be assed forking out another $100 on getting DDR3 ram, Instead I was going to spend that $100 on doubling my ram to 8GB DDR2.

Only problem is I cannot find any AM3 Motherboards that support DDR2.

I have a Gigabyte M61PME-S2P and the box says it will support AM3, but I don't know if it will support a 1090T.

What do you think?

AM3 motherboards only will support DDR3 memory. What you need is a motherboard that supports AM2/AM2+/AM3 CPUs. Since you favor Gigabyte look at these:

1. Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
2. Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H

They both take DDR2 memory and are very popular and feature rich. They both support the AMD 6-core CPUs such as the 1090T and the 1055T. But any AM2/AM2+/AM3 motherborad will do.

Good luck!

Thanks dude.

But would by current motherboard work as well?

And are there any that support DDr2, AM3 and SLI?

I found this list via Google. I don't know how accurate it is. http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-M61PME-S2P(rev._1.0).html

For SLI I found this via Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131367.
I dunno if it'll fit the bill or how good / bad it may be (possible memory limitations and only x8 x8 when running SLI).

There are several newer AMD chipset boards that have multiple PCIE slots but I don't think those support SLI, and again you may be limited to x8 x8 SLI with DDR2.
I'm not an expert on AMD systems these days - this is just what I've gathered rather hastily so I hope it helps some.

The two boards Trykee mentioned both appear to be solid choices.
