Hello everyone,

I'm moving from WHS 1.0 to Windows Server 2012. I have a norco case 4216 and I use an old MTB, ASUS P5Q with reverse breakout cable to connect 4 SATA3 drive.

I would like to add more drive, so I need a way to add 2 SAS connectors for a total of 8 new drives. I saw the Intel expander on this forum, but it's expensive and for 24 drives. I also saw the supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 but there are bad reviews about it.

Any tips on what to buy? It's for my home, nothing fancy, nothing super fast, but rock solid stable. I don't want to lose drives all the time.

Thanks,
LJ

Are you looking to just do JBOD, HW RAID or use drive pooling? You can get a basic IBM M1015 for ~$100 on ebay and is a good choice for JBOD.

Yeah, get yourself an M1015 and a breakout cable or two and you'll do fine.

Thanks everyone, this is exactly what I needed! I didnt know about that model.
