Need mem that will run 260+

Aside the default performance of the memory, overclocking is the next thing that comes to the overall picture. At the tightest timings of 2-2-2-5/6, OCZ's DDR400 can reach up to 260Mhz speeds. This is not the case with every memory though. DDR400 can only go to a certain point and after that it's the end of the overclocking quest for the enthusiast. Sure, you can run the memory in unsync. mode with the processor but mostly, that's the not the best setting for ultimate performance.

Seems like it would be cheaper to get a new motherboard rather than new RAM.
 
I have some Geil Ultra-Platinum that will do 270+ at 2.5-4-4-7. Not the tightest timings, but stable nonetheless.
 
what vdimm do you run that Geil Ultra Plat ? I have the pc4200 that's suppose to be ddr 533 but has trouble at 240 @ 2.5-3-3-7
 
i have some OCZ "Premium" pc3200 that'll run at least 250fsb, 3-4-4-8, 2.7 vdimm (at least, never tried to push it much) on my brother's dfi pro875. so you might get lucky with this stuff. what's your max vdimm?
 
If you want high freuquency overclocking when low voltage is more important than timings, OCZ EB 3500/3700 = teh kingzor.

I can run it at that speed with 3.1v vdimm (which is the max supported by Geil's warranty). My AI7 goes up to 3.2v vdimm. My sticks are very picky on timing though. I can run them at Cas 2, 3-3-6 up to about 230Mhz fsb, after that I have to run them at 2.5 4-4-7. The highest I can run with PAT enabled is also around 230fsb.
