Need mass file rename utilty with auto number.

I need a windows program that will mass rename a ton of files I select and then Auto Number them.


IE

Name Comicpage Then program adds a auto number.

comicpage01.jpeg
comicpage02.jpeg


Mayatexture01.tga
Mayatexture02.tga


The ones I have tried suck balls I spend longer trying to get it to do what I want with out losing the file then renaming anything the UI are messy.

Anybody use one already?
 
Windows Explorer will do this for you. Just select them all, right-click, Rename. Then you'll get File(1), File(2), etc.
 
Metamorphose is something I've been using for a few years now, has never failed me but it can be a bit cryptic to figure out the proper way to make it actually do a rename operation. Even so, if you need a serious tool, this one's tough to beat.

I've been using File Renamer Basic (free version) for a long time. You can add numbers before or after file names, find/replace/delete/add strings within file names. Also you can do these operations from an arbitrary point, say 5 characters, into a filename if need be. Uses an explorer style window, just put a check mark by the files you want to change within a given folder. I'm not sure what the paid version adds, I've yet to need more than the free version has to offer. Biggest draw for me is that you can preview all the new filenames before performing the operation.

+1 for bulk rename utility. can be a bit confusing at first, but very versatile.
