Just recently my computer has been giving me its crap. I was playing me some WoW and out of nowhere the monitor goes black and says, power saving mode enabled. So I turn it off and turn it on but it doesnt come on. It powers on the fans and harddrives and everything but no beeps, no monitor, no post. The monitor just has its flashing amber light. I wait a few hours and start her up. It makes it to bios and to windows and then out of the blue, the power saving enabled screen and my computer does nothing. So I reboot and nothing. I reboot and nothing. After awhile I google my issues and figure it may be the power supply. I get it on and to the bios screen but it freezes. I reboot and nothing. so I go to work today and buy a new powersupply and try it. Nothing. Then it works and I get to the bios screen. It freezes in bios. Then I reboot to nothing. Then I reboot and get to windows and while its on my desktop, Power saving mode enabled. I went from a 400w antec to a 500w dynex (best buy brand) I tried pulling ram out and still nothing.

Heres my setup.
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP rev 2 Mother board
(Newly installed Gigabyte CPU cooler)
Geforce FX 6800
P4 3.06 Ghz
Dynex 500w PSU/Antec smartpower 400w PSU
Kingston pc2700 2x 512MB dual channel
any other info avalible if needed

I hope someone can help me out. I can feel my christmas money being blown on crap.

I have had very similiar problems with WoW, but nowhere near as servere. I am pretty sure the errors generated with my computer have alot to do with my video card. And it sounds to me like the video card could be your issue, but I am unsure, an issue like that...with no error codes...can take a while to troubleshoot.

I dont see how the videocard is a problem tho, as when it DOES boot up, i still get to the desktop and enough time to see device manager and everythings fine no errors.

I'm pointing the finger at the motherboard. The fact that you don't get anything when you pull the RAM usually indicates a very low level POST failure before it gets to the RAM check. My roomate's PC started doing the exact same thing. The CPU, RAM, drives and video card are in a new system now and work perfectly.

Look for blown caps (doubtfull though, the board's new enough it probably doesn't have the bad cap plague) or any burn marks on the board.

What would cause it to zone in and out like that tho? I'm curious. This is a very odd situation, I've build and problem solved many computers, but this one stumps me by far. When I got into event viewer last it showed nothing wrong. I've got one last thing to check, doubtful, but the CMOS battery, I've heard stories at times it does weird things.
any other ideas?

Well how did the cmos battery idea check out? If that isnt it I will have to agree with the other guy, sounds like your mobo is going south.

New BIOS, set to default, reboot, put in your NEEDED settings. Go from there.

Tried a new CMOS battery, It turned on i got into bios and set load failsafe default settings, it froze in the bios. I already sent out a help notice to gigabyte but id have to wait 2 days till they get back to me. :-( So much for computers during the holidays. I cant get that sucker to turn on and stay on.

Try pulling the vidio card after it fails next.
Do you get the bios beeps for bad card ?

Another thing to try is to strip it down to minimum specs.
Remove anything not needed to post.
Can you get into the bios and is it stable ?
If it is then one of the removed parts could be causing the problem.
If not then something left is probably causing it.

While it is in min spec, can you run three loops of Memtest86, booting it off a floppy or CD as needed.

Just some ideas to try.

Luck........ :D

thanks for the ideas, i pulled the videocard and ram and i even left the card unplugged for one, unplugged it screamed at me through the 6800, but other than that i got nothing, i cant get back into bios at all.

Could be something shifted and its shorting somewhere.

Take it out of the case and examine the mobo for signs of damage, blown caps, etc, etc.

If non then try starting it on a cardboard box or similar non condutive surface.

Luck...... :D

the whole time i've been pulling things out its been sitting on a table by the side of my bed, being turned on while parted out of the case. Im really stumped on this.

tested the ram videocard and all on an AMD motherboard, worked fine, Tested the processor in my mothers HP P4 socket 478 *lucky me for them having the same sockets* the processor worked too. Its definatly the Motherboard. I'm going to get ahold of gigabyte and RMA that sucker.
