So I've decided it's time to make my stock black Chieftec case... well, not stock anymore.

One thing I hated was the huge side window, and another was the fact that I value my hearing, and all of these 80 MM fans spinning away are making my ears bleed. I ordered a solid black chieftec side panel with no window off of eBay, and decided to start the modding.

I'm planning on modding in 4 120MM fans (two side intakes, and two top exausts). Should push more air at a lower RPM, and hence be a little quieter.

That's where I've decided the placement for the fans will be (where the 120MM fan sized paper cutouts are).

The side will have one 120MM intake right over the CPU to bring cool air to it (might even build a duct between the two fans, doubt I'll need to though), and another 120MM right over the video card to cool the GPU and video memory. (The side twords the bottom of the picture is the bottom of the side panel.)

Anyway, the problem is, I want to put a window in it, however, I can't come up with a design that will look good and won't get in the way of the fans.

I don't want a huge gaping hole type window like most stock cases have, just some sort of a design on the right of the fans, and maybe over the top of them, that I can cut out and put plexiglass behind, and have some lighting from the inside shine through. I'm terrible at the whole creativity thing, and can't seem to come up with an idea on what sort of a design... I'll be hand cutting it with a dremel, if that makes a difference.

So what do you think would look good? Give me some ideas on what I should cut into it. Anything, really. I just need some sort of an idea to get me started, because all I can think of is a big, rectangular hole to the right of the fans, and there's no way that would look good... Especally with a view of the hard drive cage, etc.

Thanks guys :)

!!!!!!! Ahhhhh... Didn't mean to post this in here... Someone please move it to Case Moding...

Thanks... :(

Well its a good idea for the window, but I think that if you place a window to the right of the fans in that picture, you won't get a good few of the insides, maybe just your HDDs and some wires. Maybe you could incorporate the fans into a design of sorts that would show and work well.

Let me try to reprase what I'm trying to come up with, I'm not wanting a big window inside to show off the insides, rather I'd like to come up with some sort of a design to dremel into the sides. Nothing big enough to really get a good look at the inside of the case, but enough to let some light from some CCFL's inside shine through.

I was thinking like a dragon or something cut out would look nice, but I'd like some more opinions/ideas on what type of a design would look nice :)

Looks like you should maybe move your 120mm's on the top closer to the front of the case or go with only one. With the placement of the paper, on of them is going to be nearly covered by your psu. If you moved them forward, you will probably lose a drive bay on top though.

I just did a blowhole mod to my Enlight case (looked like this stock (without the USB ports on the bottom -- mine's an old model).) I put a 120mm in the side for intake, a 120mm on the top for exhaust and ripped out a good-sized section of the front for a 120mm intake also. There's an 80mm in the back for exhaust too.

You've got a much bigger case to go crazy with though! :p

Nah the tribal dragon is overdone. I suggest something different...something more unique.

It's up to you to come up with it though. You want to appreciate it once it's done, and you'll be able to appreciate it best if it signifies something to you or has some sort of hidden meaning. So what you need to do is ponder and ask yourself what/who/where is significant in your life and go from there. :)

Or you could just say f***it and do a tribal dragon. :D

how about a big middle finger pointing towards the back of your case, the finger going between the fans?

here is just a quick idea I came up with...nice and simple, not too complicated, should look good. I am by no means an artist though so take it for what its worth....may want to embellish the curves a bit...

I was also thinking...since this will basically just show off the hard drive cage, you could take some 100- or 120-grit sandpaper on a palm sander to it (the plexi that is)...make a nice frosted look so you get the glow but don't show the cage. just a thought

I would think maybe leave the bottom 120mm and move the other intake to the fron? Two fans on the side will probably be limiting.

And as an added bonus now you can put the dino where the top one would've been.

btw, hows the fan above the PSU gonna work? seems like it would be blocking about half of it... since it was suggested and I'm now thinking about it, I would move the fan above the PSU to the lower front for intake, move the other fan on the top more toward the middle between the PSU and drive cage. If your cpu fan pulls air off the heatsink I would personally make the top intake and the top side which is in front of the cpu an exhaust. which would also make the bottom side be exhaust since the lower front would be intake. of course if your cpu fan pushes air over the heatsink, I would make the top side fan an intake and the top fan exhaust. okay now I'm just rambling. hope any of that makes sense. I haven't been around here in quite some time so let me know if any new fan placing techniques would be better. just my $0.02

In_Mod_WeTrust - Aye, isn't there a game that uses that character? like a flashgame or something ;D

i wold try to move the fans a little further forward, so the air isnt sucked out the back fans b4 it gets a chanse to cool the case, also it looks like you wont pull much with the back blow hole unless you are willing to cut up your psu so you can pull air threw them. (maybe take the cadge off, and drill it out, or cut vents with your dremil, then put it back on so air can move and pull up and out the top hole.

do you still plan on using the stock 4 80mm fans?? or are you going to tape that up or something?

your design looks good, but its your stile and it up to you, i cant come up with something for you, but i can add my opinion, i like that and the idea of sanding the plexi will kick ass, you can eaither put the plexi in, and then put the metal back over it, or put the plexi in, and paint the inside of it.

you could also print something out on transparensie paper, and slide it behind the plexi so that design shows threw, and you can change that over more readaly (something kinda like this but not with a blatant picture like that)

good luck, have fun, happy modding
