Looking for a solution to fix the " Alert! CPU fan failure , Strike F1 key to continue , F2 to run etc... "

I have taken an old slow Optiplex system and pwned it, but I can't stand having to hit F1 every restart/boot. There is no option in the bios, I have looked more then once and googled many times. I ran into this once before on a friends computer and ended up getting the right fan to fix it for her.

I had a thought that I could use the old onboard fan connector to make something that I could plug in and trick it into thinking there is a fan. No idea what though other then a fan itself.

Any idea's welcome :D

Well there should be an option where it ignores your fan speed, in that way, you shouldn't get that warning each time.

Yeah, a dummy fan plugged into the CPU fan header might do the trick.

Also, wrong forum. Not really a case or case mod related topic.

Already mentioned there is not

Well I want to rig something up that would trick the pc into thinking there is a fan plugged in. Cant think of a better place to post it.

Like take a crappy fan and use speed sensor from it or something......

Eh, good of place anywhere I guess :)

I'm not sure what the mb is looking for to confirm the fan. Resistance? Perhaps a resistor of roughly the same rating as a spinning fan would work. Or maybe it doesn't even need a resistor. Simply jumping 2 of the 4 pins may be enough.

I'm not at my workbench to try this out.

Thanks for the input, I guess the smart thing to do would be to find out what the mb is looking for. Does anyone know?

It's looking for an RPM signal. Just jumper it from another fan in the case.

See , thats why I posted here, never thought to tap a wire into another fan, good idea.

Now my problem is which wire is the rpm sensor ? I know its not black or red but I have a white and a blue.

If my memory serves me correctly, white would normally be the RPM sensor and blue would be the PMW sensor.
