for some reason my new biostar tforce 6100 did not like my xp-90, so are there any decent heatsinks that utilize the stock heatsink bracket or if you are certain, something that should work with my new mobo. also i picked up a sapphire x800xt gto2 with 16 pipes already unlocked and would like to oc it a decent amount. so should i go with valman or artic cooling on this one or are there any other recommendations?

For vga coolers, the zalman and AC coolers will both work great, some prefer the AC since it exhaust air out the case. What do you mean your biostar doesnt like the xp90?

well when i used the xp-90 heatsink the computer wouldn't post and i checked numerous times that it was connected properly. i popped in the stock heatsink and it worked beautifully.

the fan was, it was spinning and everything. but with the xp-90, the computer just would not post.

probably had it mounted wrong and your processor was overheating from not making good contact with the base of the HS....if that's the case good thing it didn't die

hmm thats weird, well, the XP90 is a great cooler, i guess for some reason its not getting a good connection. How many times have you tried to mount it? You could go for the usual upgrades like the Ninja, BT, CNPS9500 but they are all huge and there's no guarantee that these will fit right either. The xp90 should be one of the easier HSF to install.

I agree; sounds a bit odd, considering the xp90 is a great cooler.

As for vid card hfs, I'd have to recommend the vf700 over the ac5, because in my experience with both, I've gotten better temps with the vf700. I believe it completely depends on case airflow, but I doubt you can go wrong with either one.

It should be fine. I can't see it not working unless there is no contact on the cpu. Make sure there are no indents on the xp and did u follow the correct procedure with the paste???

The heatsink previously mentioned are way too big and aren't going to give that much of an decrease in temps. Not worth it in my opinion. I have an SI 120 and it is great but it really isn't much better than the Zalman 7700. The Zalman only loses by about a degree or 2 BUT also cools all around it. If you mod the fan you will also get better cooling + lower sound dba. Thermalright + Zalman, in my opinion, are the best in this area.

i've mounted an xp90 tons of times on different motherboards nonetheless and in this case i guess it just wasn't making great contact. i tried it numerous times each time, reapplying the thermal paste each time. anyways, another reason i wanted a different heatsink was that the xp-90 was just too huge for the motherboard and case i placed it in, plus it made the ram inaccessible w/o taking off the heatsink. plus, my cpu won't overclock past 2.4ghz unless i go with something other than aircooling, so i figure most aftermarket heatsinks should be good. so basically i'm looking for something not too big, pretty quiet, and better than stock.

My system currently has the Thermalright V-1 Ultra on my Geforce 6800 GT, and a XP-120 on my P4 Processor, and they are both working awesome, i was amazed that I can actually these 2 huge monsters in my system without having any interference.

On my Processor I get 37 C when just using it to browse the net.

On my GPU I am getting about 46 C, which was way better than my stock heatsink of about 60-70 C.

As for installation, it was easier said than done, however all in all it took me about 30 minutes to install the V-1 Ultra, which isnt too bad, considering people were saying the installation process was hard.
