So i was playing a game when all of a sudden my monitor loses signal...so i restart and still no signal...i swap out video cards and still no signal...try moving ram out taking some out still nothing...any help would be appreciated
specs are:
p4 3.0ghz
80 gig hard drive ide
1.5k mb sdram
geforce 5700 ultra 128mb ddr2 memory
soundblaster audigy 2 zs
 
Is it booting, but not giving a signal to the monitor, or is it just not booting?

If it's not booting, try resetting the CMOS. If that doesn't work, it's time to start swapping parts until you find the dead one.
 
yeah its booting and i tried reseting the cmos...so i guess it is time to start swapping parts :(
 
Any onboard video? Also try a PCI graphics card. Your AGP slot could have taken a crap. I have had that happen before.
 
AGP Port/Card, monitor, the mobo is going. If you have the spare parts, you best be doing some swapping...
 
Have you tried the monitor on a differant system, perhaps that died?
 
I would test the monitor first on another system.

Then, do you have a spare monitor? Try another monitor on that computer and see if it works. If so, it most likely isn't your graphics card or AGP slot (unless they're THAT picky, but I've never had that happen to me before).

Does your monitor take in another input btw? (like mine does VGA and DVI). If so, try the other input? (you probably tried this already if you could, but I'll state it anyway).
 
Could be the cable, I just recalled a time where my monitor lost signal, turned out to be a bad VGA cable.
 
Well someone previously suggested a PCI video card - I assume you don't have one though? (sorta old school...)

If you did try another monitor and it worked, then I doubt it's the AGP slot.

My question for asking if you had another input - DVI vs VGA - was as a method of testing the cable. I know many monitors have the VGA cable as part of the monitor, so you can't easily just replace it with another cable to test.

But if it was the cable, and you tested it with another system, then maybe it isn't?
 
i tried another monitor and it didnt work...i tried the monitor that was on the messed up comp on my other comp and it worked on it...so bad AGP is the only thing i can think of..since its not the monitors, not the cmos, or the memory
 
From my point of view, I would definitly place priority on the possibility of a broken AGP (as you have).

But just to confirm. The system that you tested the monitor on (the one that it worked on) - have you used THAT video card with the currently NOT working system?

Basically just trying to minimize variables by using parts that you are not just sure work, but have just tested (as in I know that video card I have lieing in my drawer works, but I haven't tested it.. whereas a video card I pulled out of another machine I know works, and is tested).
