Ok I got a IBM server sitting here Dual P3 1.1 Ghz with 1024 MB with floppy, cd rom and HD

I want it to fold but unsure how to go about this. Should I just install linux on it and setup two clients? (this comp will do nothing but fold until I sell it)

I looked around I thought there was a CD i could burn that would format HD and just go at it but the only thing i seem to see is diskless stuff

Any thoughts thanks

 
I knew UM had did something like that thanks for the link but download doesn't work so I will see what zim linked

 
If you have a spare copy of Windozes, then you can run it off that if you just want to run two copies of the CPU client.

If your CPU have 64bit extensions then grab the .iso from Zim's link.
Thats what I'm useing to run the SMP clients on.

Otherwise you want the i386 .iso I think.
Its up one level from the link.

I'll send moose a case of IC light, if you show me a P3 that has working x64 extensions. And no, virtualization or emulation is no an option ;)
 
Yeah I wish the pIII had x64 I would run smp on it

I am at work now but downloading file so it should be ready to try out when i get home
 
well I tried mage server but it had an error so while rebooting it started windows server 2000 :)

guess guy on ebay forgot to remove that... logged in to administrator with no password... I am such a hacker

 
Ok got it all up and running but under Server 2000 it doesn't list 2 cores in task manager?
But when it boots and in bios it does say 2. Is this just server 2000? should i run 2 cores or just one?
Any ideas?


 
May have the wrong driver selected for the CPU. Check in device manager to see if under Processor (or CPU or whatever it is under 2K server I dont remember and am on the road) it says Uniprocessor or Multiprocessor. If it is Uni it will only show up as one core and pretty sure it wont tilize the second CPU so running 2 instances will just use that 1 CPU. That eing said the first thing I would do would be to open the case and make sure that it actually has 2 CPUs in it if it came from Ebay.

Yeah there are to procs on it but the driver is uniprocessor the bios also states 2 procs

Alright got it changed over to multi now rebooting.... I am starting to fall in love with this comp all over again :)


 
LMK know how that works. Windows gets silly about the whole driver issue. I have had it where the system wouldnt be stable when it did that as the system was tryin to use both CPUs and windows would lose it's mind
 
So Far it is running pretty well right now had to reboot but it seemed to take it pretty well

Darn thing is load tho need to get out of room

 
Did teh driver change from Uniprocessor fix it so that it shows both CPUs?
 
Yeah it did. Just went in and said change drivers listed all drivers for device and select multi

go in reverse if i took a proc out
