I'm using the stock HSF. I'm wondering a few things.

What kind of temps should I be looking to keep the CPU at under load? <65c?
Should I only be changing the multiplier on the CPU to OC it? When, if ever, should I bump the HT by a bit (in the proper way)?
I'm planning on keeping the voltage low, probably only bumping it up one step or two depending on temps, is this the right way to do it?
 
you want to keep it under 62C.. AMD rates the max temp at 62C but its actually 69C it will start throttling its self at 65C'ish..

the norm for that processor on stock voltage has been around 3.4-3.6ghz which is do-able on the stock cooler.. it should be able to handle any voltage under 1.4v (as long as its the heatpipe version, if its just the pos aluminum block that they send with the x3 710 then it cant handle anything over stock voltage) but thats still pushing it on the stock cooler.. so try to see what you can get on the stock voltage first.. then try experimenting with how high you can go on the voltage after..
 
I have it at 1.325v and 200x17 @ 3.4 Ghz right now. I'm idling around 44c and when I run prime it hits around 64c. Should I bring it down a bit until I can get a new HSF?
 
You could leave it as is for now since most applications are no where near as demanding as prime95. I do suggest getting a different cooler to get those temps even lower.
 
AMD CPU's don't start throttling at 65C unless your BIOS is set up to do that. The hard limit for the CPU is a fair bit higher (around 70C, it's different for various models) and your system will just power off if the limit is reached.

High temps can still cause instability, though.

max temps 69C.. even though amd claims its 62C.. yeah.. i know because i found out my self by testing it.. :p
