Friend asks for help buying a new system.Sounds simple enough yes? No. I could give you the long version but it boils down to him only willing to buy from a brick and mortar store like Best Buy or Circuit City. Soooo I check out whats available. The horror. Choices seem to be HP, Compaq,Sony, or Emachines. :( Sony seems to be a waste of money for what they give you, but the rest of the choices...ick. One thing that surprised me was the Emachine used an Nforce2 MB.The power supplies on all these damn things are giving me nightmares. What would be the lesser of all these evils? If you can help with this mess please let me know.

Here's what ya do.

Go to eBay, and buy a Dell case. Throw some good quality components in it, and tell him it's a Dell.

Otherwise, leave him alone, it's his money, let him waste it how he wants.

lesser of evils, I would have to say e-machines. the new ones are good, old ones sucked, go for an amd 2800-3200 those are good boxes. Plus emachines have less preinstalled crap then other boxes ( i said less ,not none) . I have had bad luck with compaq and hp, sony is way way to pricey ( but they look cool )

just my 2 cents

emachines has an athlon 64 machine, t6000 i believe, that would be a pretty sweet system.

This was what I was leaning toward.Just wanted a second(or third) opinion.Thanks.

namebrand computers make me feel icky too, but his friend dosent want him to build one, so if he wants a name-brand box.... go E-machines :D
