Need Help With Soundcard Woes....

Hey guys, I'm havin some trouble with my computer's audio and I was wondering if any of you could help me....

I recently assembled my new PC and it runs awesome. However in order to take advantage of my 5.1 Altec Lansing Speakers, I needed to purchase a soundcard. Well I wasn't about to fork over nearly a hundred bucks for a sound card from Creative (the audigy) and their 5.1 card was as expensive as most 7.1 cards, so I took advantage of a sale on newegg for a Chaintech 7.1 surround card ( I know, I know.....)

Well to put it shortly, the sound is not as loud as I know it could be. The sound quality is OK, but the loudness is what is really getting to me. I had louder sound out of these same speakers when I had them hooked up to my old Celeron system with ONBOARD sound! Now I know the chaintech's not all that, but I know its gotta be better than onboard from a celeron.....

I used to be able to turn my speakers up 1/3 of the way and fill my room up with sound. Now I turn it up 3/4 of the way just to get the same results. What's goin on here?

Can someone out there help me out?
 
Check all your internal mixers, and see what volume they are set at. I'm sure either the windows sound mixer, or the soundcard's mixer is set low. I don't have the card, so I can't point out exactly where to look, but I'm guessing it has a master volume control, and some ones for wave, CD, etc. Make sure you turn up the wave and master volume controls, and that should solve your problems.

Anyways, are you running into trouble getting the volume that you want, or just wondering why things changed?
 
Tried that already, and the mixers are normal.....

As for your question, the answer is both. I want to know A.) why it changed (for the worse) when I upgraded to a better system, and B.) how to make it as loud as I want.

Any other reccomendations?
