i am trying to get F@H working on my computer, the one in the sig. The program will not automaticly start on its own, I have to start them manually. here is the error I am getting. both instsances are getting the same error. not sure how to get this working automaticly, I am trying to get back into folding, I am even building a second computer that will be doing nothing but folding. I have some quistions there also but those can wait till at least I get the box finished.

Are you trying to get the console client going or is this the SMP client? I have a go to guide written by Wharf Rat having to do with the SMP. But this looks like a different type of thing. Here is a link to the how to I referred to in case it might help.

 
You're getting a permissions error while attempting to install as a service. You need to do this with administrator privileges. Otherwise it appears that you're doing it right.

Its running project 2620, so its the console client.

I deleted the .cfg files and redid all the settings and I did select no to the IE settings. I dont know why that one was set to yes.

Its working very well on my system now, FAHSpy is reporting about 600+ points per day. I dont know if thats good or not for only 2 cores. I bought the 4600 as a temp place holder till I can aford something better. I think I will probably get a quad core when they have a 3ghz version under $200. I dont really like overclocking but if they can get a working version of AOD I would probably be more into overclocking.
 
Have you considered running the SMP client on your dual AMD system?

You would get more points per day (PPD).

Right now I am a noob when it comes to this. I thought the console was the best for me. I have no idea really what all the differant versions are. I know theres the console version, and the graphical version.

This system is not a dedicated folding machine, I still play games and surf. so whatever version is best for me at this time I will be more than happy to learn what I need to get it done, so feel free to sugggest what ever is best. I aint doing this for fame , I am just trying to help out the best I can.
 
SMP (symmetric multiprocessing) is another console version that supports multicore processor code. i run this one on 2 dual core AMDs and 2x on my quad core. in day-to-day use, I can leave it on and not notice any difference in my machine performance. during things like games, i simply turn it off while I'm gaming.

these clients are available here

I personally run all 5.91 beta6 clients, but i'm sure some folks around here could help setup the newer versions of the smp client if you need help

Vista 64 bit only works on the 5.91 beta6 client. 5.92 does not support 64 bit. Just in case you are thinking of going that route.


 
Ok, So what is the best way of uninstalling the 2 console versions I have now?
 
Ok, I went into services and disabled the 2 F@H services so they wouldn't start anymore.

Ran the installer for the SMP client (5.91 beta6). Read the directions. Run Install.bat and get this!

What am I doing wrong.


To install the first console I created an account called Superadmin that had a password so I could get the services installed. This worked fine for that, but I cant get the SMP client to work. My normal account that i use everyday is called Diablo2k and does not have a password.

Tried that still got the same error. I tried installing .net 2.0 it wouldn't let me. Don't know what I am doing wrong. starting to piss me off :)
 
Where are you trying to install it to? If you have UAC turned on, you shouldn't install in Program Files.

And .Net 2.0 comes with Vista, no need to install.

I just installed it to the default location. its installed in Program files (x86) if thats not the correct location where should I move it to? or do I need to uninstall it then install it to a differant location.

I have it running fine on Vista 64, but you need to install it in another directory. Program Files (x86) just doesn't seem to work properly.
I installed to c:\fah1 and c:\fah2

I have simply copied fah directories after installing and it's worked fine, but YMMV.
 
I am really sorry people, I cant get it running, I tried running it from a differant folder, running it for this user only, running it for all users, I keep getting the same error. I am about to give up and just run the old console version.
