Need Help with SB Audigy 2

I finally got my sb audigy 2 today. Its an oem, so it only came with the install cd, no bigge.

So I uninstall my old drivers, restart, disable onboard in bios, start cd, and it says my hardwar is not found.

Since there was no manual, I downloaded one thinking I might have forgot a step. Turns out I did. A calble going from the card to the cd-rom was not in. So I got the right cable and plugged it in the the right slockets lining up pin 1.

Restarted, installed drivers, still wont find it.

I downloaded the newest drivers from the creative site, installed, and got the same thing :(

What is wrong? Help will be greatly appreciated.

Iam gonna go re-check all connections, but I am pretty sure they are good. Maybe I did not put it into the pci slot snug enough?

Ok, the aux_in was in the wrong connector! That should fix it! Wrong :( It still does not work. Could it possibly be the pci slot? Gonna go mess around in windows now to see if i can find out any info.
 
try using a different pci slot.

if it still doesn't work, i think you have a dead soundcard.
 
:( Thats what I was worried about.

I have unplugged the aux in because after reading an faq here, it said i dont need it.

I really hope its just a dead pci slot. I have 5, and if it is dead that makes 4. More than enough considering all I have is this and maybe a wireless nic in the future.

Here comes the 'next' click of doom. If it works, I will tell you guys, and if it doesnt...well...you you know what my anger is from. ;)

I will try plugging that aux in cable and see if it does anything, along with a clean cd install(I already installed creatives media software)

If not I have packing to do :(

Try rebooting into SAFE MODE (hit F8) repeatedly after the computer restarts and recognizes your hard disk & CD-ROM drive. Enter the regular safe mode (not "command prompt" or line-by-line). When in safe mode, go to Control Panel and "Add or Remove Programs", and uninstall anything by Creative or that says Sound Blaster or SB128 or SBPCI or SB16 or AWE...you get the idea. Also double check to be sure the on-board sound drivers are gone. Next, turn OFF the computer -- do NOT restart yet. After turning off, take out the sound card, restart the computer normally, and go into the BIOS. You said you already turned off the onboard option there, but check around to make sure there aren't TWO such options -- I really once had a motherboard whose BIOS had two on-board sound entries. Reboot, and when windows loads check to make sure there are no sound cards recognized. If everything looks good, turn off the computer, and put the Audigy 2 in a PCI slot somewhere in the middle - not next to AGP slot, and not at the bottom. Turn the computer on, and if hardware wizard starts up, just click cancel a bunch. Then install the Audigy 2 drivers -- make sure they are the correct ones, as found here . Oh yeah, make sure to disable any virus protection stuff you have going before you start the installation. Good luck!

Thank you for all your help guys, but all the help in the word cant fix a defective card. :(

btw, can someone post a link to the realtek ac97 audio drives(by onboard), I can not seem to find them on their site for windows xp pro. (I have lost my cd, duh)

I found them, guess this can be locked now.
 
Sorry for double-posting, but a response is urgent.

I have given this thing one last try. One thing I did was browse through the online manual. In it i found this:

In the manual, it says it is optionable, but I just want to make sure. What cable do I connect to this? It is the white jack, but my speakers have no white jack coming from them.

Iam also confirming that I DO NOT need the aux_in cable plugged in. Either way the card doesnt work.
 
Nope, you do not need to have that module or anything else plugged into the card to install the drivers.
Does the bios see the card?
 
maybe winxp already installed their default drivers for it? Service Packs update Window's driver databases by quite a bit.

go to the control panel, open up Sound and Audio Devices. Under the Audio tab, what does it say under Sound playback Default device?
 
It says no playback devices. Right now I have both cards installed right, just no drivers. And if I install my onboard drivers, it just says realtek ac97(my onboard)

I will look tomorrow to make sure of this though.
