Okay, i guess i do not understand what i thought i knew... I have a xfi-fatality pro gamer sound card, i also, have logitech 5300e speakers... i have that all connected to my pc for gaming...

with that said, if i buy a receiver and connect my sound card to the receiver, then connect the speakers to the reciever will this improve quality or just give me more power?

Now for the receiver, this is where i am confused... i do not have a huge budget i just need to get a receiver that will do the job not beyond the call of duty... i was looking at the yamaha htr 6030 there decent price and as far as i can tell have everything i would need to hook this up the right way... it has 5.1 surround sound, digital decoders, not sure about inputs/outputs but am i on the right track? my sound card does not have optical in/outs so i do not think i need my receiver to have digital optical, i think i just need to have coax in am i right? please help

the speakers on a 5300 aren't going to take much more power than they are already given, but yes, you could hook them to a receiver. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the 5300 has a miniplug or phono style plug that goes into the sub. You would have to cut the plug off and strip the wires to stereo leads because a receiver accepts +/- wire leads. Now the sub is another thing. I am not sure if it has an "input" that you can plug into a receiver. As far as the specific receiver, check shoponkyo.com for some great deals on refurbs. Onkyo makes a solid product.
