Hi

OK, so I actually bought an emachine, T6528. Got it yesterday as a "backup/for now" and later to network - because I planned on having my older custom computer rebuilt (new mobo, cpu, etc.)...except today the old one just up and died. I think the less than 1 year old Thermaltake 42w dual fan went - and took the board with it.

It's not a bad little machine. But the 300 Bestec? psu? I'm not feeling real confident with it. The motherboard on these is MSI MS-7207 (K8NGM2-L) which does have a 24 pin connector on it. The one that comes with the computer is 20 pins, so I'm guessing either way is ok?

I was looking at the xclio 450watt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817189003, but I'm not sure this is what I need.

I will be buying 2x512 (probably) Kingston Valueram PC3200 - single channel, I don't understand this dual thing. (this was one of the recommended RAM on the MSI site

ATM, I don't have a video card, just using the onboard, and I won't be going far with the card. Probably something along these lines:

We do online gaming, alot of flash based "shooter" type games, some PC desktop games, but nothing really intense, also make alot of graphics (PSP7), some word processing, lots of surfing, especially image heavy sites. Kodack digital camera/dock, visioneer scanner/USB external floopy drive (my roomie has an OLD digital camera that uses floppy disks)/printer are peripherals just about always attached and used; will be getting software to hook my old stereo to the computer to get a load of cassette tapes put on CD. That's all I can think of usage wise.

Any suggestions that aren't too expensive (I'm on disability and just the computer was a hardship financially) would be appreciated. Thanks :)

The Bestec 300W that comes with those are very good. Save your money.

Hi Johhny

Thank you :) Sorry for the delay in replying. This computer is causing me stress that I'm just not used to. Various problems, nothing huge, but nonetheless annoying and frustrating (USB keyboard sometimes stops responding - I have to unplug, then plug in again and it's fine, the "beeps"/RAM issue and that I can't find IE to uninstall so I can reinstall - it won't enable JavaScript so I can't see anything flash-based no matter what I do).

The bestec psu is, so far, running well. But it does seem to get pretty warm after an hour or so. I'm still thinking of replacing it, along with having a PCI-e video card and I will be swapping the current 512 RAM (which is apparently defective - I get beep pause 3 short beeps when I start it up) for a 1 gig stick of RAM and RMA'ing the defective 512 for a new one to put in the second slot. So eventually I should have 1.5 gig ram total.

The PSU's that have gotten my attention (I haven't seen anything at 400 watts that is ATX12v V.2.01 - which is what MSI says is needed) are:

CLio 450BL 450Watt
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817189003

MSI TuroStream 450W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817701001

ePower ZU-450W (no PCI-e connector, but I don't think I need one?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817101010

ePower ZU-500W (which may be overkill?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817101011

Any other suggestions are very welcome - except Thermaltake. They are on my never again list, as a 6 month old 420W in my older computer just up and died with no warning - taking the motherboard with it. I'm leery of Antec, having heard bad things about them. On the other hand, I've never heard of ePower or MSI power supplies.

Only have one IDE HD, may be a second added, scanner, USB external floppy drive, digital camera dock, printer, will be adding PCI-e card, looking at this one:

Chaintech GeForce 6600 SE6600/256MB 128-bit

Yes, cost is a consideration -- I'm not going to spend close to $100 for a PSU on a $450 eMachine. But I would be looking for something that will last and perform consistently. I'm not nearly technical enough to really understand some of what's written.
