Hi guys,

I am from Canada and was wondering if anyone could give me a recommendation for a PC build. I'll be primarily using this for minor gaming (fortnite) and editing/uploading Youtube videos.

The last build i had is from 5-6 years ago which i got from this website so I think it's time for an upgrade (i5-3570k). I'll be using the monitor I currently have but the rest of build i'll need brand new (motherboard, cpu, ram, video card, hard drive, psu, etc). Budget ~$1000-1500 CDN.

Appreciate the help and lets see if we can see some cool builds here!

Doesn't look like you need an upgrade for your needs. What's your videocard? Do you have an SSD?

I get squeeking when i turn on the computer and feel like the computer has run it's course. This is what I bought back in 2012:

NCIX Gaming Bundle Deal Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked CPU & MSI Z77A-G43 DDR3 CrossFire Motherboard

G.SKILL F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL Ripjaws X 16GB 2X8GB Kits 240PIN DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory

Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 900MHZ 3GB 5GHZ GDDR5 DVI HDMI 2XDP PCI-E Video Card

LG GH24NS72 24X SATA Internal DVD Writer Black OEM

Antec HCG-520M 520W ATX12V Modular SINGLE-RAIL 40A 80PLUS Bronze 135mm Fan Active PFC Power Supply

Samsung 830 Series 128GB 2.5in SATA3 MCX Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD *IR-$10*

NZXT Source 210 Elite Mid Tower Steel ATX Case Black 3X5.25 EXT 8X3.5IN INT 120MM USB3.0 No PS

Anyone? BUMP

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
  • Gaming mostly (such as PoE, Overwatch); Web browsing/Editing videos/Photoshop
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
  • ~$1000-1500 or so is fine. I could stretch a bit.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
  • Toronto, Canada
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
  • CPU, RAM, Case, Mobo, SSD, Graphic Card, PSU, case
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
  • Just the monitor
6) Will you be overclocking?
  • Probably not
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
  • 22' 1920x1080
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
  • Within the next 1 month
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Crossfire or SLI support? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? etc.
  • N/A
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
  • Yes, Windows 7 64Bit

I'm not sure, that's one of the reasons i'm here. Last build I got from this site was in 2012 and I ordered from NCIX (which is now out of business).

Some websites to order from online: memoryexpress.com , newegg.ca , tigerdirect.ca , pc-canada

Not sure if you see the same prices as in the US but the AMD Ryzen R7 1700X for $130 is a real good starting point, maybe add: Asrock itx board, 16-32gb of ram a 1tb nvme ssd and a vega 64 (aprox 400$ with game bundle), maybe throw some cash to a RTX2080 if you need more gpu, but prob not at 1080p.

I would replace power supply and pick up a Vega 64. Make sure supply has the connectors and wattage for the Vega.

That may fix your squeaking by happen chance. It also could be a case fan which is like 10 bux to replace or the video card fans which are getting removed with the new Vega.

If that doesn't make you happy THEN worry about the CPU/Motherboard etc.

Amd Ryzen 1700x ($219)
Asus Rog Strix B350 MB ($117)
Corsair vengeance LPX 16 (2x8gb) DDR ($124)
Vega 64 ($749)
Samsung 860 EVO ($72)
Corsair RMx 750x Fully modular PSU ($100)

Total: $1,381 USD

How is this? Got those prices all from Amazon.com

It's hard to predict the future but if I was to guess probably a good five years.

I'd say yes. Solid build. 8 cores 16 threads will keep you going.

You can drop in a direct AM4 processor upgrade later on, as well as a GPU should you desire. I don't think the platform/primary build will need to be replaced for a long time, no hardware issues assumed.

I personally would change the case. 270R is alright, not the greatest.

Consider the Fractal Design Meshify C instead IMO.

The motherboard is tough so it can't die lol.

It's funny the 1700X has the exact same clock speed and boost as his i5 3570k, but 4x the threads. I wonder if it can run 4 copies of Fortnite at once?
