my friend wants me to build him a computer so he can record his bass guitar onto... what would i need to get in order to do that?

what would i need to get in order to do that?
A clue! :D

MIDI and recording a live feed are two entirely different things.
For this application just about any sound card will work....
The catch is to get acceptable results you need a good sound card and good software and they do not come cheap
Do you have any form of budget to work with?

Best bet is a Maudio Audiophile 24/96

Midi is for keyboards and other electronic gear - what you need is a good input, not low midi latency. Luckily the Audiophile does both :)

can someone give me some links that they know of? maybe some high end sound card reviews, i have been reading and reading, but i dont know what direction to go in.

dude just go to guitar center and say that you want to record bass to your computer, ask about m-audio products. they make a $150 model that uses usb and will interface nicely with store bought computers. or get a 192 and go at it. lol maybe an mbox is in order?
