Anyone know how to set up Linux so that I can remote control the boxes from a Windows based machine? If possible, specific to Ubuntu 9.04? I tried turning on the Remote Desktop feature that is under System Tools or Preferences, but when I download the Free RealVNC client, it will never connect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

From Remote Desktop Preferences:

Click check box for "Allow others to view your desktop"
Click check box for "All others to control your desktop"

Advanced Tab:
Click check box for "Use an alternate Port" and change to 5900

I use TightVNC viewer (any VNC viewer will work). Log into using "xxx:5900" where xxx is the name of the virtual machine.

Hey...I can't find the Advanced Tab. What version of Ubuntu are you using?

currently running 8.04. I didn't hear good things about 8.10 or 9.04 so I stuck with 8.04

Yeah, I'm currently using 9.04, so I might switch back, because I want to be able to monitor my machines, and I can't figure out what port it's running on now.

8.04 is their long term support version right?
