Hi I currently own a Minolta 4100 laser printer, won this printer off of ebay, it came reconditioned. But when I go to plug it into the wall, I turn it on and nothing. No lights or beeps, just clicking noise from the back of the printer, which happens to be heard near the powersupply.

I have this question,
A. What is causing this and how can it be fixed?
B. If it is the powersupply, why is it making a clicking sound when you turn it on?
C. Has anyone else experienced this problem with their laser printer?

Hmmm, is the clicking sound mechanical?

By this I mean, does it sound like an electrical arc or like two things actually hitting each other?

If it's the former, you're probably screwed. If it's the latter, I would open it up if you can and then plug it in (without touching anything) and try to find out what's hitting what

Not sure, but when I turn it on, the printer does nothing, no parts hitting each other, just the clicking sound coming from near the powersupply component. If the powersupply would be done, could It be replaced. Or should I look to another laser printer to get?

Check the power supply to see if it can be opened. If so, you should be able to replace the fuse that is most likely blown. If not, the power supply itself needs to be replaced.

P.S. I've done tech support for printers for the past 5 years, just to let you know I'm not talking out my butt.

I'm glad someone in these forums have worked on printers, I will try that in the morning. Not sure if Minolta had fuses in the area of the powersupplies, but its worth a look. Thanks for the help, I will post back and tell you what I have found.

I opened up the laser printer, here in front of me was the powerboard with black and white leads down to the powerswitch and power socket, then green for ground.

I tested the fuse with the voltage meter set to ohms, the fuse tested fine. I checked the compasitors for blown caps, there was none. I checked further around the printer for problems, I found none.

I am thinking that the powerboard on my laser printer has gone bad. What is your suggestions of what else could have gone bad on this printer that I might not know about.
Any printer experts in this forum to help me out?
