Need help with Koolance HD blocks

Has anyone had any experience with the following Koolance HD blocks:

HD-57
or
HD-60

I will need to cool off 3-4 Raptor drives inside a Lian-Li rail system.
 
Generally HD blocks aren't a good idea as their restrictive and lower temps can actually reduce HDD performance. Is there a specific reason you need water to cool these? Why not just more airflow?

3-4 10,000 RPM hard drives get very hot! I am using one complete loop specifically for the HD's so whether they are restrictive or not means nothing to me.

It's just a fun kind of thing to do. It also will really look nice when I am done. :D :cool:

So do you have any experience with these coolers?
 
I'd get two of the danger den ones, unless you're gonna do an all aluminum loop

In that case, +1 to sanchez's statement. The koolance blocks are alu IIRC

The HD-57 blocks has nothing but a HydraPak (not aluminum) touching the water.

The HD-60 is made entirely of stainless steel.

The DD ones look way too clunky and big for my uses.
 
Stainless steel is *just* as bad as aluminum, if not worse.

The hydrapacks can burst IIRC, but most people use them without issue.

Do you know the type of stainless they are using? There are lots of different grades of stainless with very differing properties. I guess I will call Koolance tomorrow and find out.

I can find out for you.

Either way, it will be ferrous, and that's not something you want in a loop filled with DI water. :)

See this OLD REVISION of a fitting... It has since been corrected... But it's the same steel that Koolance probably uses for this block as well.

Again, Koolance doesn't use steel in any of their fittings anymore - AFAIK it was a production error that was very quickly resolved.
 
are these the old raptors or the new raptors? because even in my poorly cooled case i have a VR and 2x150gb raptor's and my VR never goes over 40C and my old raptors max out at 50C (full load temps transfering a 25 gig file between the VR and raid 0 2x150gb raptors and the same 25gb file back to the VR)

the heatsink on the VR works wonders even with just a little airflow over it..
 
The original 36 Gb and some 74 Gb Raptors. I can't figure out what everybody needs with all these gigantic drives? All my drives are less than half full.

Actually I know that the drives run cool with just a very mild amount of air over them. I'm water cooling them for the challenge, the looks, and more importantly the FUN. :D
