Earlier today i turn on my ipod, select a song, and hit play. the minute i hit play it freezes up. wtf? ok so this has happened before. all i have to do is reset it. Wrong! none of the buttons work nothing in the manual works. the things stuck on and the backlight it stuck on. Its one of the older ipods..sorry i dont know all the names but its the one with the scroll wheel and the buttons are in the scroll wheel if that helps at all. i need help fixing this thing because i need it for a trip tommorow.

2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off (slide it to Hold and then turn it off again)
3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears (about 6 to 10 seconds). You may need to repeat this step

If that doesn't work, your ipod is one of the older generations, so #3 would be
Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until the Apple/iPod logo appears (about 6 to 10 seconds). You may need to repeat this step

either that or just wait until it runs out of battery. Then, plug it in to charge. Wait for it to boot up, then try again, even punch it a couple of times in the back. It worked for mine.

Thats the steps i use to reset but it does not work. Mine looks like this --> http://img34.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ipod1ge.jpg only its not video/color. 20gb and i got it around xmas of 04. relentless i hit it a few times after reading it in another thread. i almost popped the front off but thats about it as far as punching goes.

If you tried the first set of instructions and they didn't work, the only other option is to do as Relentless said and wait for the battery to die.

I think that's what happened to my 2nd generation one a long time ago (it only did it once in all of the years I've had it). All I did was hook it up to my computer and it began to be normal again.

holy crap man, dont punch it that hard, just like tap it on all sides besides the front on a hard surface, maybe the HDD spindle is off balance, thats what I allways do. Or just do the non physical way and wait for battery life to die.

Its a 4G by the way. Thats my intilectual input for this thread. Also, I recomend doing like everyone else said, let the battery die and then plug it in. Its just a hard lock-up and at this point seem slike no big deal. If killing the battery doesn't work, post here again and we'll try other stuff.
