need help with fan fix

i followed the steps with the fan fix, but i cant find the files in

C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\profiles\fanfix.xml

but its not there. the whole folder is empty after i go to ATI/ACE. theres nothing there for some reason. i made sure i unhidden all the hidden files too.
 
You need to open CCC, go to overdrive and click the key icon to unlock the profile. Then it will create a folder when you save a profile.
 
Why are you needing to change the fan speed? The only reason anyone would need to is if they are overclocking. It runs perfectly fine at stock speeds.
 
fine but bloody hot, for little to no extra noise, 35% fan speed for 30C lower temps is why he is probably doing it.

still, an odd one that, if you have unlocked the overdrive, created a profile then it should be there.

the only thing i can think of is to do a search for the file name and see if it pops up there.
 
i guess ill try to search the file, but if i cant find it, i guess ill just uninstall all the ATI software, and reinstall it.

23% default vs. 35% is a decent amount of noise difference actually. 23 is silent and 35 is, not "loud," but definitely a noticeable difference. 35 is good for gaming because your focus would be diverted away from it anyway. I don't think I'd recommend it for idle. I have mine at 25 percent for idle. It's just as quiet as default but temp is dropped from 80 to 70.
 
at default it's not actually @ 23% it's even lower or off, it just doesn't read below 23% If I manually set it to 23% it stays in the 50s and 60s on desktop
 
how do you know if your profile is actually activated? i set it to 45 to seee if it works, but i havent seen any change. i used GPU-Z and it doesnt show any difference in temps and fan speed.

nevermind, i got it changed. WOW can you hear the difference. lol! well, thanks everyone
 
ATI thinks 80 is fine =p mine is around 60 no one knows really

if you want a permanent fix, flash your bios =)

I got my card now running 800/1000 :D

What OS are you using and Catalyst Version? I'm assuming XP given the path you're using. The Profiles are kept in a different folder if you're using Cat. 8.6 which is why I asked. Also what card are you using?

Don't know which Fan Fix reference guide you used, but here is the original which I've updated previously and includes crossfire and HD 4870X2 cards. No pictures, but pretty straight forward .....

thaks for your response honestjohn, but i found the problem and fixed it. the fan fix is working fine.

on default speed, the temp is idle 70C, on 35 percent its 55C. surprising. but 60 percent fan speed lowers it to 50C, so i leave it at 35percent because 60percent is way too loud.

Sorry, missed that in the thread. Glad you got it worked out. I have mine at 38% which keeps it between 47C-51C pending ambient room temps. I find the noise levels start to climb beyond tolerable at 42%. That's when my fan really starts to rev-up. Enjoy the card.
