Hey guys,

I just bought a new video card ASUS HD7970 DIrectCUII.
This card requires 2x 8pin cables, the PSU i have now had only one 8pin power cable in the box, i thought buying an extra cable will fix it, but it seems that i need to replace my PSU for the video card to be fully functional.

OCZ support says: "ASUS recommends a minimum of 42 amps available on the +12V rails for the entire system. The ModXStream Pro 700W is just over that minimum with 43.75 amps. The combined power consumption of the card's two 8 pin connections is spec'd at a maximum of 25 amps which is also the max capability of of the power supply's rail that the PCIe cables are fed from."

Here are the full specs:

PSU: ModXStream Pro 700W
Motherboard: Sabertooth x79
Processor: Intel Core i7-3930K @ 3.20GHz
Video Card: Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II 3GB GDDR5
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 4x8GB DDR3 RAM
Drive: Corsair 120GB SSD
Samsung 840EVO 250GB SSD
3TB HDD

Will there be a difference in the size of the PSU?
The one i have now is 86x150x160mm, just want to make sure it's gonna fit my housing.

If anyone could help me choose the best PSU for my system, I'd be very grateful.

The Seasonic M12II-650 should be perfect for your setup and allow plenty of overclocking headroom.

Seasonic makes top quality power supplies and also manufactures some PSU's for other companies like XFX.

The ModxStream 700 watt is more in reality like a 550 watt power supply, as it only has 550 watts available on the 12v rail.

That being said, 550 watts is more than enough for that system at stock. Why do you need to replace the PSU?

Also, exactly what size concerns do you have?

The PSU i have now has 1x6 pin and 1x8 pin outputs.
So even if i had a 8pin cable, it won't help me.
Both of the outputs are visually 8pin but one of them supports only 6pin (stupid)

For the size, the PSU i have now fits perfectly in my housing, which means that there is no more space than what i used for the ModXStream Pro 700W

I need a Power supply that comes with 2x 8pin cables or 6+2pin cables.

Buy a cheap 6 to 8 pin adapter. The two extra pins are just ground pins anyways.

Does it come with 2x 8pin / 6+2 pin cables?
I had much trouble finding a 8pin cable that would work with the video card, i asked in all stores nearby / ebay etc. and nobody had the cable i need.
Just want to make sure.

What about the Corsair Builder Series CX750W ?
Is this one better than the Seasonic M12II-650?
