I currently use FX 5200, which sucks and I am moving up to a better card. I just bought the following:

ASUS P4P800 SE motherboard
1GB Kingston RAM
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz Prescott CPU

I am loking at ATI and NV cards, but need to know which model of ATI competes with which level of NV. As far as I can figure, the 9200 ATI competes with the FX 5200 NV, the 9600 ATI with the FX 9600 NV, and so on. Is this correct, as I dont want to but a 9600 ATI only to find it is no better than my current card. I've done a bit of research, but it's all very confusing.

Also, I have about US$ 220 to spend on a card, and I want to use it ONLY for gaming, so I dont want fancy extras. AS far as I can gather, the Hercules FX 5900 128mb, ATI / Hercules Radeon 9700 pro / 9800 / 9800 pro are the cards to buy. I want to be able to play games like SWKOTOR and Far Cry with enough detail to make them look nice, but i dont want to push the envelope, although I am going to learn how to overclock.

Can anyone advise me? (and thanks in advance)

Jim

Far Cry... yea ATI is your bread and butter atm.

9800 pro 128 meg is your card ATM. However, I'd wait about 2 weeks until ATI comes out with their new line and perhaps you can find 9800 XT for that price instead of the pro.
