So i bought a computer from an online retailer, very happy with it, great wiring and all parts seem to be working, however the overclock they provided me with (3.41 ghz on 9550) got reset mysteriously upon the computer crashing when trying to load Crysis (after ive loaded it numerous times already without issue)

I had to shut down and upon restarting my bios got reset back to its default settings for the ASUS P5E3 premium.

My computer: 9550, 2 sticks of 4 gigs corsair xms ddr 3 1333 mhz, corsair 750 watt psu, 4870 x2, ASUS p5e3 premium mb. Have a zalman 9700 cooler with an Antec 1200 case and max fans. CPU runs around 41c idle, and my 4870x2 i use expert tool to run fans at 70% and gpu 49c idle. VIsta 64 Ultimate sp1.

My issue is basically that the retailer provided me with various analysis sheets from Everest and CPU Z and 3d mark, so i basically went ahead and adjusted my settings back to match those analysis sheets to the number. I went into the bios, changed my FSB to 400, DRAM freq to 1334 mhz. And CPU Voltage to 1.40000. I set the voltage to this setting because in the analysis reports CPU Z read a voltage of 1.376 and the only way to achieve that was 1.4000 in the bios.

Now, in those sheets they had my memory clocked at 667 mhz. Everest report looks like this:

Chipset Properties:
Motherboard Chipset Intel Beachwood X48
Memory Timings 9-9-9-24 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)
Command Rate (CR) 2T
DIMM1: Corsair XMS3 DHX CM3X2G1333C9DHX 2 GB DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-18 @ 457 MHz)
DIMM3: Corsair XMS3 DHX CM3X2G1333C9DHX 2 GB DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-18 @ 457 MHz)

CPU Speed:
CPU Clock 2402.6 MHz (original: 2833 MHz)
CPU Multiplier 6x (this changes to 8.5 under load)
CPU FSB 400.4 MHz (original: 333 MHz, overclock: 20%)
Memory Bus 667.4 MHz
DRAM:FSB Ratio 10:6

So i matched those numbers, but now experience some slight instability. Crysis halts my machine after random play times, anywhere from 2 hours to 20 minutes. Have to shut down the comp and restart due to solid lock on computer. I ran MEMTEST app on my memory and at around 26% coverage my machine halted from within VISTA.

Im an OC noob and i need help as to the proper settings i should set for my ram, which seems to be the culprit here. I set it to 1066 frequency and then ran memtest and it ran through 70-% coverage without any issues. I guess the big question i would have is it a natural thing to have to lower your ram frequency from its max rated (1333 in my case) to run a stable OC? Any help at all would be great.

Well i read through the very informative thread up top and searched around. My volts were way too high i think. I set my DRAM volt to 1.7 as ive read the manufacturer suggest that. Im gonna try my cpu volt at around 1.25 or so.

-I thought ram volts generally didnt go lower than 1.8
-ddr3 memory for the lose of money in ur wallet for no gain :p

there is a better way to test your memory, its MemTest, but its a bootable CD, then you can run test 5 and see if that gets 10 passes with no errors, though I am not sure if DDR3 is supported, it should be

have fun
