Need help with a raid card

I have setup a system with a Silicon Image IDE RAID controller. I
installed it without connecting any hard-drive and Windows picked it
up fine and installed the drivers from the CD.

Afterwards, I connected a hard drive with master setup to
the IDE1 channel on the RAID card and then I booted the system. The problem is, that
after the System and Controller BIOS run, the system doesn't boot
Windows... it simply shows a blinking cursor forever with an occasional pause.

what should I do to fix this.
 
If I understand you correctly, one IDE port of the RAID card is connected to one harddrive.....

Let me halp you in a way I know works:

RAID will require 2 drives, unless you're using a "software" RAID, which we won't talk about.

My approach uses a minimum of three drives: Two will be RAIDED (0, 1 or 0+1), the other is a clone using a cloning application - I use Ghost 2002.

You've headed in the right direction, having a single drive with XP detect the RAID controller and loading the driver.

Create your clone disk: Ghost uses either a 1.44 floppy or CD as a driver to copy from one partition to a drive or drive to drive. It will allow you some compression room, say 2 to 1 (200 GB to 100 GB disk), but don't expect maricles.

Now, connect the single drive to an IDE port on the computer, wither CS, slave or master on the appropriate ribbon terminate. Connect your two RAID drives to the RAID controller, boot into the controller BIOS and set up your stripe. 64k is fairly standard and suggestable. Make this bootable. Keep loading with your bootable clone disk and clone the single drive to the RAID. The IDE bus to PCI RAID add on will saturate the bus, so this gpoing to take som time. SATA onboard RAID to SATA port takes about 1 minute for 25 GB.

Once this is completed, shut-down and disconnect the single drive. It's important to not let the two active window drives boot at the same time unless you have a boot time application, like boot commander, in place.

You should boot into windws, and one the RAID drivers load have to reboot - it work's great for me, using several different add-on and onboard RAID0 devices.
 
Not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve. Do you want to boot off the array?

If so and this is a fresh install, I would hook up the drives you want to raid then build the array in the controller and reinstall windows (with your driver floppy ready to use during setup).
 
So I'm going to need another hard drive?
Currently I have a 300gb maxtor (which has windows on it) , 80 gb (using as addition space) and 160 gb western digital which I purchase recently. Do I need another 160gb hard drive to make the raid card work? I like to use the 160 gb as another addition space.
 
Change the "boot order" in the BIOS to have the drive with Windows first. You won't need another drive for this.
