i have an alienware workstation** with two opteron quads in it, and dodgy memory.

i have tried twice to find new memory for it, and both times it hasn't fitted.

it requires ddr2 fully buffered ecc dimms...............

but which ones?

not this one:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-hypertec-fully-buffered-dimm-(fb-dimm)-pc5300-667mhz

nor this one:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-...67)-240-pin-ecc-fully-buffered-dimm-cas-3-4-5

What on earth will fit on the board?

cheers

It appears you need just Registered ECC RAM.

Compatible RAM for the KFN32-D SLI/SAS motherboard is listed within the above linked QVL, and can also be searched for at memory manufacturers websites (some listed below).

Kingston <- Expand search results for additional results.

Crucial <- Expand search results for additional results.

Apacer <- Enter motherboard details at this site.

Transcend <- Full search result.

Some results have already been found in some of the above links. And don't forget to expand the search results (if applicable)! Other links require you to search for compatible RAM by entering your motherboard details.

Good luck!

hmmmm, thank you all.

not sure how i came up withthe FB requirment, but the mistake sure might have been easier to spot if scan used the right images.

i take it FB DIMMS come with the indented corners, and standard DDR ECC with square corners?

I do not think so. The visible difference is in the placement of the notch.
