Need help w/ XFX 6800

So let me start this off with an introduction. I play cs:s competitively and my xfx 6800 is greatly dissapointing me. I have to run my settings on all low and use dx 8.1 to keep my fps in the green. My system is as follows:

64 bit 3200+
1 GB Corsair Value Select
ABIT NF8 Mobo
XFX NVIDIA 6800
Maxtor 80 GB 7200 rpm

So as you can see my hardware is more than adequete...but I can just not seem to get my games to run like they should with my hardware. I'm wondering if anyone is having the same problems as I am with this card....or if its not the card and maybe just the drivers i'm using (DNA-2.2.8185) because it seems like some drivers have been better than others.

Now I have another topic that I have questions about and that is softmodding my card to open it up to 16 pipes. I read the sticky on this at guru3d.com:

and went to all 3 links that are in the sticky and the 2nd and 3rd dont give any warning about doing the softmod with my card but the first says this which is my problem:

Mine does say none so I'm wondering if anyone can give me an intelligent answer as to wether or not I can open my pipes on my card. Also I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to memory timings for my ram I have it on 2.5 - 3 - 3 -8 because I was told that was the default. Bottom line is that I really want my hardware to live up to its potential. Sorry If I sound like a noob, its only because I am one as far as all this goes. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
First thing I do with a new card is doownload coolbits and use the "Detect Optimial Frequencies" button to see what my GeForce can do. I'll usually leave it at that, as pushing it higher than the optimal frequency is, in my experience, detrimental to the lifespan of the card.

When I have a card, like yours, which has unlockable pipes, I go to guru3d and get the latest RivaTuner. A tutorial on how to do this is given here.

There are better qualified (and dare I say insane) people on these boards that'll go much, much further than that. But I'll leave it to them to voice their qualified opinions. Me, I'm happy with my 20% core overclock.
 
What resolution are you running? Is this on a fresh install? You say you are only able to run in DX 8.1 mode.

You should easily be able to run CS:S. I would look into video driver problems, like conflicts from the left overs from previous driver installs. A 6800 should be able to run CS:S with quality settings easily in stock form. Overclocking and unlocking are the least of your worries right now.

Describe your symptoms (stuttering etc), it could be the NF3/6800 problems that are prevalent.
 
Thanks for the replies. I am able to run cs:s it just drops in to the red fps when i am running dx 9. I really think that it is a driver issue because I use some drivers and they give me great fps but then i get blue screens often. Can anyone who owns this card give me any advice?
 
You check the power supply bud?
It just a guess.
Try checking your clock speeds with rivatuner.
And check 3dmark05, if your score is abnormal then that is another sighn.

- Reinstall Drivers
if that doesnt work
Try a rienstall of windows.
