I honestly have no idea whether this is a hardware or software problem, but I'm pretty sure it's hardware. I have an i5 2500k, Asus P8Z68-VLX, 16GB RAM (X-skill? I don't remember), Nvidia GTX 570, 2x DVD sata drives, 1 sata SSD, 2x sata HDD, 7x case fans, and an Antex 620W PSU. Also, of course, keyboard, mouse and speaker setup. Oh, and the key to this is 2x external HDDs.
Now, the reason why I mention every single part is because I think it may be a power issue. I don't know how many watts every single thing uses. When I turn on my PC, everything comes on, the keyboard/mouse lights up, I can open BIOS if I want to, and use my keyboard/mouse just fine and dandy. The SECOND "starting windows" displays, the lights on my keyboard/mouse turn off. My monitor will display the Windows login, where I can type in my password, however, my keyboard and mouse are not "on" (the lights on the devices turn off at this point) and I can't type in anything. It takes about a minute for them to "recognize" and turn on (even if I turn off the requirement for a Windows password, the devices still won' respond until a minute or so after Windows has loaded).
Now, this is where I add in the fun. I have 2 external HDDs. One is powered (is plugged into an outlet), the other is not (just straight USB). Now, I could have EITHER one plugged in, it doesn't matter, and the aforementioned problem will happen. It doesn't matter whether it's the HDD connected to a power source or not. If either HDD is connected to my USB, the keyboard/mouse issue will happen. If neither are plugged in, my keyboard/mouse will instantly be on the entire time, and I can log in to Windows just fine and dandy with no wait whatsoever.
I have alternated the drives to see if it's one or the other, and both cause the issue when only one is plugged in. My Windows updates are up to date, all software is up to date. I can't figure out what the issue is. I thought it may be a power issue, but I got my second DVD drive (bluray burner) today, and my computer instantly turns on (with both external drives off). I just can't figure it out. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
