need help silencing my comp

Do any of you guys know of a good FREE alternative for dynamat, because i cant afford it and i know there has to be some ghetto way for me to rig up something that can absorb sound with random junk laying around my house. Can someone help me out here?

For the areas with enough room maybe try egg cartons? I know some poor home studio musicians do that to keep the sound sfrom bouncing. Spray the walls down with expanding foam? Haha, that'll look funny.

do you have 80mm fans? if so and if you have the room but a 80mm to 120mm fan adaptor and stick a 120mm fan in its place.

Be careful what you put in your case. If its a good thermal insulator it will make the temperatures rise. Roof shingles are made of asphalt so if you Liquid Nailed them to the inside of the case it would have some of the same damping properties as Dynamat, which is also asphalt with an aluminum constraining sheet.Only use the packing foam for the removable side pannel thats not behind the mobo. Thats way too insulating to put behind it.

thanks for the suggestions guys, i am currently trying out a 'muffler' for my exhaust fan, it is made out of a tiny cardboard box that is taped to the rear of my case behind an 80mm fan, so far it seems to be doing its job. However doing this resulted in a significant loss of airflow in my case and raised my temps by about 7 degrees fahrenheit.

Maybe you should switch to an aftermarket muffler with a straight through design. Glass packs perhaps. While your at it you may as well remove your catalytic converter, but you may not pass emissions tests anymore. Oh wait...wrong forum...

It's funny how the concept of a more restrictive, quieter muffler lowering performance applys to computers as well. Modders and ricers are one in the same.

now if only i could find a way to convert the whining sound of my case fans to something more 'rumbly' with some sort of exhaust system similar to one found on a high performance car, the i wouldnt care how loud my comp is as long as it sounds good ......lol

go to an small mom/pop computer shop... chances are they'll have a box of mousepads... the old foamy type... i'm sure you can figure it out from there..

that sounds like a pretty good idea, i stuck some foam that came with my comp's video card's packaging in my muffler, maybe i can do something with some old mousepads laying around

Just don't resort to the mindset that adding stickers will make your computer faster.
