Hey every1, First of all i'm not sure if i'm posting this in the rite section, but if i'm not sry about that....Now like i said in the title..i need help setting up raid on my system...I'm gonna be using the onboard SATA connectors on my motherboard ( ASUS Striker Extreme), with all the latest updates and everything. Now i would call myself a complete noob where this is concerned..I tried following the steps on how to do it and i keep getting stuck at the part in the windows setup where it says "No hard disks detected, Press F3 to exit "...In the main menu screen of the bios everything is listed there , optical drives and both hard drives (74 GB Raptors)..After i setup the raid in the bios it shows SCSI 0 138.xx GB and when i go back to the main menu screen i noticed that the raptors have been removed from the list, also in the boot priority menu it shows SCSI 0 138.xx GB and still it doesn't detect anything when i try to load windows....Can someone please explain to me in full detail as to how i can get this done the right way....If you like feel free to add me to any instant messenger ..

thanks in advance
Greg

are you doinf the f-6 pre-load for your raid drivers? are you enabling the raid array and the sata ports in the bios?

that is a good place to start.

Yes it is prompting me to install additional raid drivers but i didn't get a floppy disc with the motherboard, and since the drives are already recognized by the motherboard i didn't really see it relavant to install another set of drivers....Raid is enabled in the bios and the ports are also enabled in the bios. while in the bios i get up to the point where i select the 2 drives and i select the type of raid i want (striping, mirrored..etc.) and after that i clear the drives and then i try to load Windows XP Professional 32-bit and it doesn't recognize the drives..it says the same thing i mentioned in my first post...

you have to download the raid drivers from Asus' website on another computer and copy them into a floppy disk.

Windows CD does not come with Raid drivers.

cobra...as naro mentioned..

you MUST get the raid floppy, and use it at the F6 prompt. it won't work any other way .. Windows needs what windows needs, the bios and hardware are irrelevant to what windows needs here... so..given a "click next " prompt ( or click F6 now if you have a raid )..usually the best way to approach that is to click "next".. or..F6 in this case

well on the driver cd that came with the board i did notice that there's a section for creating disks...and as far as i can remember there's one there for SATA RAID drivers...I'll give it a shot and let you know how it went down...thanks again guys...

If you don't want to/have a floppy to install, you can use nLite to slipstream the raid drivers. I just did it on my M2N-E and it works very well
