Need help reinstalling Windows Xp

I built my pc 3 months ago and I installed Windows XP Pro OEM

I am having problems with a virus and need to erase my harddrive, unistall Windows and reinstall it again.

I have googled guides but dont realy understand them

Can someone please tell me how to or give a link that is easy. Thanks.
 
You basically boot from the CD and install it the same way you did originally. When you reach the screen that lets you select the installation partition, install on the one that is already there and tell it to format it when it prompts you with the option. That should be all there is to it.

Ok, I guess I only have one partition because I only have a c:/ drive in my compter..How can I make another partition to use to install Windows on and another for programs and stuff???

You will have to delete the existing partition, and create a new set of partitions. You use the install CD, just like any other install, but make those changes instead of accepting the defaults. The list of keys to press should be shown near the top of the screen as you work.

I don't personally care for splitting my system in that way; It just seems to make it where one partition fills up while the other sits there barely used.
 
Langford's answers are correct. I would like to add a few things.

I suggest creating at least 2 partitions. A small one for OS and every other program that you can easily reinstal from disk.(Office 2003, Photoshop, Acrobat Reader, etc) Also allocate enough space to this "primary partition" so you can effectively download large files to this partition.

The second partition should be the larger one. You should keep all your keepings on this partition.(videos, backed up pdf prints of reciepts or something, email backups and such) Music library definitely needs to go on this partition.

If you have more than 2, then you can decide to store stuff as you wish. The only important concept is that you keep one partion as the designated OS and programs partition with space for download.

This set up have saved me from a lot of grieve. I'm not sure if it's an effective measure against all virus, but I am certain it can be toward many. Most viri attacks the OS, so in the case of such a virus as the "lsass" virus, you can simply reformat the ONE partition with the affected OS on it. All downloads will initially enter the primary partion with the OS first. If they happen to be a virus, well then, easy fix right? If it's a safe download and that you want to keep, simply copy it over to the other partition for keeping should your computer fall victim to a virus.

Reinstalling the OS and all common programs you have on disc is MUCH easier than trying to recollect/restore/rerip all those music files in your music library or... lose all your important data.
