Hello,
First of, she has a Sony VGC-RA716GY computer. Her comp crashed and there's no way restoring it thru Repair from the boot cd. Here's the topic i started regarding the error http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1167398

So i guess all that's left for me to do is hook her HD to my desktop in order to retrieve all her important files. The problem is, i have a somewhat newer setup. My motherboard is ASUS A8N SLI Premium. Her HD is Western Digital WD2500 (Enhanced IDE HD). So where do i hook this up in the motherboard? A friend suggested that if i had a PATA drive, then i can just unhook my CD-Rom and insert the HD there. If you're familiar with this motherboard please help. Thanks.

What your friend said is correct. You can unhook the optical drive and put the IDE disk in its place (this is the recommended option), or you could put both devices on the same IDE chain after configuring the jumpers correctly.

As far the jumpers. I need to set it to slave drive, correct?

Yes. You'll need to make sure that it's on Slave if the optical drive is on Master, or vice versa - they can't be set to the same thing. Cable Select on both will also work, usually.

Ok, i just connected her HD to my computer and i can access all her files:) But my question is, will be able to restore whatever file she needs in order for her HD to start working again? It would save me the hassle to transfer all her files and reformatting the HD.
