A friend of mine wants to replace his old Dell PIII 450. I told him that he should consider building one and that I would lend him a hand. I previously posted this on the AMD board as I thought he might be able to get a bit more power at a better price point, but perhaps I'm wrong. So I'm appealing to those in the know about an inxepensive Pentium 4 setup.

He has a monitor, keyboard and speakers that are ok, he'll just need the case, ps, mb, cpu, ram, dvd burner and os. $600. is his absolute limit.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for the best system we could put together for that price. Thanks in advance!

1) You already posted this thread http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=760160

2) Once again you have failed to tell us what this computer is going to be used for. There is going to be quite a difference in parts depending on what he does and doesn't do with the computer

Seeing as how the other thread was quite helpful I would read it again.

edit: I think Intel makes great cpu's, however if you are trying to build a machine on the cheap then i don't think Intel is the way to go imho.

Left this reply for you on the other board. This is a basic upgrade over his current outdated system. Just the move to stability with XP over Windows 98 will be a big plus for him. He'll play some games, but he's definately not a hard-core gamer, that's why he's not dropping more into it.

I'm just trying to help you get more replies.

The more info you give us, the more info we give you
