Not sure if this is the right subforum. I've just built my new PC:
2500K
Asus P8Z77-V
Gigabyte 6850
Seasonic M12-II 620W
It boots with error code: 1 long, 3 shot beeps and VGA LED is on - that indicates a VGA card problem. I've triple checked everything and couldn't find what's wrong.
I then tried taking the 6850 out and used 2500's GPU, it worked fine. Reinstalled 6850, no go. Installed my old 4670, boots ok. I then tried the 6850 again, but this time I didn't connect the 6pin PCI-E power connector. It booted fine, though only shows picture on the built in GPU!
Tried the other PCI-E cable that came with the Seasonic, even tried the other plug on the PSU, but every time it fails to boot. The card works fine in my old PC.
I find it strange that only the PCI-E lanes would be faulty on the PSU, and even then, why would it boot without it, but error out with the plug in?
Any ideas?
EDIT:
I've connected the card to the PCI-E connector of another PSU. Still the same error. Is it possible that the MBO and VGA have some strange incompatibility?
EDIT2:
It is possible. BIOS update solved the problem. Third revision from 05/2012 doesn't work with a 6850
