I just got all the parts for my new pc yesterday, and am currently putting it together. I've heard a lot about putting pressure on different parts, so I've come a problem. I'm trying to put my Zalman CNPS7000B on the processor. However, when I set it on the CPU, there is perhaps 3/8 of an inch between the retention braket and the nipples. I'm afraid to tighten it down like that, as I think there will be too much pressure on the processor. What should I do???
 
The clip was designed to place the proper amount of pressure on chip when fully tightened. Just slowly tighten the screws a few turns at a time alternating sides until the screws stop turning in the nipple, nothing to fear. Just take your time.
 
is it normal to have that much space between the nipple and and th bar though? seems like a lot of pressure to me. This is my first time building a pc, and I don't have the money to replace too many parts, so I'd like to do it right the first time.
