i just purchased a 80 gig WD cavier hard drive that im going to build a older comp with..'
a7v333-512mbcorsairXMS333-AMD 2000+

so i plug everything in and set bios to boot of the cd drive...winxp

and then the comp says master drive fails...

i have HD as master..primary

CD as master secondary..

i know everything else works becuase i just was using this comp.. with a different hd..
 
yes wd says if its a single drive, then remove the jumper.. but i did try it on master and cs..

the bios is saying

Primary master drive fails

i just tried it in a different computer and it says the same thing..
the Freaken thing is brand new.. how lame...

then windows setup says
system cannot access this drive
 
well if you just tried it in another working computer then it sounds dead..try putting it in another system as a slave and then checking it
 
would i just plug it in and turn it on? ive never installed a second drive..(i know im a Noob)
ive built 4 seperate systems but never a two hard drive system..

Just set the jumper to slave as per the diagram on the drive. Plug the cable, same as your master but use the gray end to the drive. [ Note: you're cable typically has a black/blue end that's for your master drive, the second is often grey for your slave drive,, ok?]
You're good to go. Try that.

yep i just hooked it up and now flash screen says

primary slave hard disk fail

so i think its dead right?
ill have to rma it back to new egg.. what a pain in the ass..
 
sry forgot to say that i did try 2 different cables..both of them work for the other drives that i have..
