Hello guys, I have just been out of the computer hardware loop for sometime now. I built my current rig 2.5 almost 3 years ago and my parents are buying me a computer because I'm going away to college. What is the best hardware for me to get for gaming? I need a completel setup from motherboard to memory to video cards, etc.... Money really isn't an issue... I'd assume something under 2500 so work with 2500 dollars. Throw some ideas at me cuz I have no idea what is good anymore....

Thanks so much,

Pace

The new cards from ATI and NVIDIA are releasing next month.

GeForce GTX 280 and 260 from NVIDIA.
ATI Radeon HD 4870 and 4850 from ATI/AMD.

One: No "yelling" in thread titles. In other words, no all caps, lots of !!! like you did. It's against forum rules. EDIT: Mod delt with the title.

Two: This is not the sort of thing to yell "please please help me" over anyway -- it's a computer build, not a fire, not the loss of your extensive porn collection, not a donation link to pay for your grandmother's kidney trans. It does not matter nearly that much.

Three: This is in the wrong forum. You should have posted this in the General Hardware forum. I imagine a mod will move it soon.

Four: Your signature is about 2x too long. I think the limit is 11 lines, but whatever it is, you're /way/ over. It's annoying and makes threads you post in difficult to read because of all the dead space it creates. It's also against forum rules. Please shorten it. EDIT: mod dealt with the signature.

Five: In the general hardware forum there is a sticky, a FAQ. Tirades, Danny Bui, enginurd, myself and likely others I am forgetting now spent a great deal of time on this and try to keep it up to date. Read through it before asking any more questions. Answer all the questions it asks and include the questions and answers in your new post, or edit your original post to include them.

Six: Don't be so lazy. "I've been out of the loop" is a good excuse to use /after/ you've done your research and people tell you that what you've chosen is bad. If you're willing to spend $2500 on a computer (overkill for pretty much any purpose at this point in time, by the way) you should be the one making the bulk of the decisions, unless someone has a good reason for you to do something else.

And, just so this is a constructive post, and not a mass of ranting (though the ranting was constructive, really): The other guy is talking about ATI's Radeon HD 4xxx series and Nvidia's Geforce 2xx series, which will be replacing the 3xxx series and 8800/9800s, respectively. They should be out by late June.
