Hi guys. First post here. Basically need new audio hardware for a pc. I am currently using a sb xifi sound card with psycho headset that is breaking as we speak. I was OK with the surround sound in gaming but listening to music with them is pointless. Worse than wearing iPod buds. My budget is around 750-1000$. I don't know if I should do a headset with surround which I have never really liked or get a nice pair of headphones with separate mic. I have seen mix amps which use tech like cmss3d which can make a normal set of headphones more surround for gaming. I currently also own Bose earbuds, a cheap steelseries, and Bose qc15. I'm considering the sennheiser mm 550x because I am thinking I could use the headphones with a mix amp for gaming, use them wired to the pc for music and on the go when I listen to music via bluetooth at work and travel. I've seen them for around 500$ + a mix amp. I do think wireless could be nice around the house as well as noise canceling I'd like too. I know I can't get everything but I need recommendations on different options. Which mix amps, headset or headphones, sound cards or mic I should get? Intense Gaming and Music listening but no audio mixing or recording. Thanks for help:D
 
That Senn 550 looks like some kind of headphone made to destroy bose for all time. Does every damn thing doesn't it? I don't think it will have the best sound for the money though. Pretty certain a Hifiman he-400 would make it sound bad in comparison for instance.

Mix amp? Meh. Not sure about those. I know they are ok for gaming but actually a receiver with dolby headphone or what I use is dolby live 2 ch downmix is pretty amazing sounding and i can use speakers with the receiver.

You might consider the Senn RS170 or 180 for wireless. Open headphones tend to sound better for gaming and movies.

I've been reading. Maybe an amp and some nicer sennheiser headphones would be better. Like maybe some senn hd700. Does my sound card need to be upgraded? I know nothing of amps. Are they worth the cost?
