Need help picking a water cool system

I'm thinking about getting a water cooled system. I was going to get a Lian li 1200B case, then later it came to my attention that Koolance makes a very nice looking case PC4-1025BK ( a Lian Li case with an intigrated water cool system).

The things I would like to accomplish with a water cooled system are.

1. I would like to OC and still have a quiet rig. I know radiators and pumps make noise, so I would like to keep it to a minimum.

2. I would like to get a case I'll have for a while, that is why I'm willing to spend a little extra.

3. I am concerned if I get the Koolance, how reliable are they? Are there better units I should look at?

Primarily I am going to use it on a

E6300, later a E6600
1 SATA HD
CD/DVD RW
9750GX2

Not sure if I need to cool the Northbrigde and video card or just the CPU.
I would like a cooling device that is built on the the case, not one that is loose like the new Corsair unit and I think the radiator really needs to be outside the case, else it would heat up the case too much, I think.

I would recommend just getting the v1200 case.. not the whole koolance kit. That is too expensive, and while good, there is still better options to choose.

If you are just starting out, cooling the cpu/graphics would be good for a quiet system. The things that make the most noise are the fans. As long as you have SILENT fans like a yate loon, you are going to have a real quiet pc. Try finding a motherboard with a heatpipe solution for the northbridge/southbridge, because it will be quieter than using a fan on it. Watercooling the nb/sb really isn't necessary, but those components do get really hot especially if overclocking. Usually you can just take off the heatpipes or heatsinks and re-do the thermal paste with AS5 (arctic silver 5) which helps a ton.

For a pump, the DangerDen D5 is darn silent and powerful. You can turn up and down the speed from 1 to 5.

For a radiator, if you are cooling a cpu/gpu, a nice 2x120 radiotor like a black ice pro or black ice extreme should suit you well. A 3x120 would be used in real extreme situations where you are cooling a cpu/gpu/nb/hdd, etc. You also would be pushing it for space with a 3x120.

I agree with alot that w1retap said... The koolance kit is overpriced and the performance really isnt that great.

Putting a block on the nb isnt really necessary and will usually just reduce your flow.

I also recommend the laing d5/mcp655 pump. Powerfull and very quiet once all the air is out of the system.

The radiator wont make any noise, the fans you put on them will. If your going for a quiet system then the Yate Loons are an excellent choice. I wouldnt recommend the black ice extreme though since they really only excel with higher cfm fans which are naturally noisy. The black ice pro or gts would be the best bet for lower cfm fans. or if you willing to spend the extra go with a thermochill pa rad.

Koolance takes the Lian-Li case, cuts a hole in it with a saw, and plops the Exos on top of the case. Cheaper to buy the EXOS and do it yourself.

I bought a Ever Cool WC-202 Water Cooler locally for 100$ and it's been working great so far. Went from LOAD temp of 78C to LOAD temp of only 58 that's at 3ghz

Those temps are ridiculously high! I have a c2d @ 3.3ghz on my other rig and on air my load temps were about 60-62. Last month I built a loop for it and my cpu now idles at 28c with a load temp of 39-40c.

Your cpu block may not be seated properly or that evercool kit is just giving you less than stellar performance. Although for you to have such high temps on air there is a good possibility your IHS isnt quite flat enough. You could try lapping it to get better results...

I guess?... I know what why it's being water cooled @ 55ish only because I had issues when I was installing the kit. It's got a bad layer of EverCool Thermal Paste / Intel P4 junk.
Going to replace with AS5 shorty and update my case fans to higher CFM so that should keep it under 45 LOAD or I will hope.. Brought me down from 78C on AIR so 20c isn't that bad..

Well you must have a great case.. I think I will be clearing off this garbage.. What should I use to wipe the CPU water block and E6600 down with? Apply a line down the middle of the CPU with AS5 and let the block smush it down or should I even it out?

Well I just dropped my Vcore down from 1.395 to 1.312 and that lowered my temps from Orthos TEST @ 58C TO 53C.. A whole 5c difference just by changing vcore is cool.. I will be purchasing 3x80MM case fans and a Nexus fan controller so I can get some more CFM flowing in my case whenever needed. Hopefully that will drop me another like 8C and re-applying my CPU block with AS5 should help.

What CPU are you using?

I'm letting my MCP355 pump run right now as we speak for a leak test, and I can hear my current computer over the pump when I'm holding the pump in my hand and my current PC is over 30 ft. away.

I swear I thought the pump wasn't running until I touched it and felt it vibrate. Like everyone said, just make sure all the water is out and it's silent as can be.
