Getting a Intel E6420 I need help picking a good mobo so far I've been reading and most of asus boards have problems bios unstable, uses too much power. Anyone got any good recommendations? $200 budget

Abit IP35 looks good. Then again i have the misfortune of owning a Asus P5K deluxe. Every other board looks good to me.

IP35 Pro is ~$180.
Of course if you don't need it's features you can spend less.
The abit's & Gigabytes seem to use noticeably less power than the Asus.

If you're down for saving some money on that budget:
Gigabyte DS3R for ~130 is a nice board.
If you need firewire, the Gigabyte DS3P is ~ 150.

The Abit board has the gigabit ethernet and the firewire on the PCI bus. It effects performance a little bit, but not enough to make it anything less than an outstanding board. The Abit board has the best bios/software set as far as overclocking features go out of the bunch.

mwave had the standard IP35 (with RAID & Firewire) for $113 after rebate - not surprisingly they are currently oos.

thanx for the input :D I'ts hard to pick there's so many mobos there and most sucks

What's the issue with your P5K DLX ? mine runs fine up the FSB wall of my current E6600, no issues nor sound issues not bios updates that went wrong, etc... it's a dream board in comparison to the 680I mobo's I had wihc vwere very picky on ram and settings...

anyway if you are on a budget the propesed mobo's seem fine or a P5K vanilla...

Ok I was reading specs of IP35 and saw pci-e x16(x4 bandwith) need a little explanation :|

was also planning on going SLI sometime in the future >.< argh

SLI? Then you can't buy ANY intel board right now. nVidia chipset is your only option.

Some P35 boards DO support ATI crossfire sli. Just not Nvidia sli.
SLI is an nVidia trademark & as such only applies to nVidia cards - ATi's equivalent technology is called Crossfire.

Yes sorry i know but unfortunately the common term for 2 video cards in your system seems to be the acronym SLI.

Even though it's an Nvidia only term, in Internet computer lingo it means 2 cards regardless of the company.

not sure, I've heard that they kill rams and other shitty stuff, mine (assuming) is just died I think. It's either hit or miss. If you're not using SLI, don't.

They're probably the best of the reference mobos (due to cs).
But if you don't need SLI I wouldn't go with an nF6xxi

Get the EVGA 680i version plz mate or the XFX doo rev... if you go reference baord,.... I never liked MSI surely not for overclocking,
