Okay, I made my buddy a kick butt rig but his monitor only takes parallel port not vga or dvi. is there an adapter I can buy or something to get his monitor connected to this video card?

LOL. There is no way in hell that is a parallel port for a video card. Parallel would be way the hell to slow to even show VGA (640x480) graphics.

What kind of video card is that?

Parallel port? Haven't heard of a parallel port based monitor before. You're talking text mode only, probably.

It could be Open LDI (looks a bit like DB-25). Is it a Silicon Graphics monitor? You can (could?) get adaptors that will convert it to DVI. No idea how much they cost or even if they're still available.

edit: found one: http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?code=0152-SGIS
Even if it was the right connector, at $249 dollars you might as well tell him to get a new monitor.

edit2: forgot you asked for VGA.Seems the SGI Multilink would do that but it's out of production now. Ebay?

No modern consumer graphics cards use anything but DVI or VGA

what on earth are you talking about? HDMI? If he just built a "kick butt" rig, then he shouldn't be using it with an ancient monitor.

there's no way a man can confuse HDMI with a parallel port, maybe with a USB but not parallel(hopefully for the sake of man kind).

but i've never seen something that could look like a parallel port, even on really old ISA card.... take a pic of the connector or draw it with good old Paint!

It can't be a parallel port unless it's a so called "dumb" terminal from the late 70ies.

You better double check what kind of connection that thing really has before you start plugging in some cables.

BTW, i agree with pretty much the others: You built him a killer rig and didn't buy a monitor or didn't even look at the monitor he has?

Does the connector look like these pictures?

If so it's OpenLDI and I'd give up on it.
