Need help on LCD viewing in native resolution

OK, I'll be the first to admit I'm a noob when it comes to LCD monitors. I've always had CRT until needing to upgrade just recently. So, the problem is, I know that running NATIVE resolution of the LCD is best and recommended most all the time.

But, I have a problem because most of the ones I'm looking at are 16:10 or better and I simply can't read or see anything at that native resolution. Yes, even with contacts I still can't read or see anything that high and computer glasses just don't work due to glare. Now, what can I do to be able to use Windows, web browsers, etc. to make it usable in NATIVE resolution? Is it possible to magnify or enlarge Windows, text, etc? In other words, leave it at native resolution but scale the software (i.e. Windows, web browsers, etc.) larger so I can see it OK?

If the above is not possible, what can I do to help? No, I'm not close to blind, but I'm not a young guy with 20/20 vision either. I know there has to be others out there with the same issue I have and wondered how they worked it out?

Note: I'm mainly looking at 20-24 inch widescreen LCDs (Dell 2005FPW, HP L2335, etc.) with no price range best for gaming AND 3D art work.

Well, have you tested out one of the LCD monitors you are looking at? You see, with their native resolution, I believe it will look a little different than when you try that res out on your CRT. This may not be true, but I think it is. I have got a buddy with the Dell2005fpw (I ordered one as well) and I have no problem seeing his resolution. I am also not just a guy with 20/20 vision. In web browsers, you can go to View>Text Size>Largest and make the text in webpages bigger if you wish. I believe there is also some kind of magnafying lens you can run via windows, but maybe I dreamt that one up.
 
Anyone else care to comment on this topic? I could use some more feedback. Surely not everyone out there is a kid or teen with 20/20 vision. :)
 
There are a couple things that you can do that can things easier on your eyes. First if you want to incease the fonts then right click on the desktop go to properties, select appearance go to font size and select large fonts. second insteading of clicking on appearance click on settings click on general (It may be different depending on your video card options) then it should say dpi setting. Click large size 120dpi (thats what I use everyone has a different preference though) click apply (Note you'll probably haveto restart the the computer). Third if you use internet explorer increasing text size doesnt work on all websites. So if you want to force the text larger click on tools, internet options,general, accesibility, and select ignore font sizes specified on webpages. Using another web browser such as mozilla firefox will force the text larger on all websites just click on view, text size, increase, (works the same way in internet explorer) If your looking for a program that magnifies webisites then I recommend http://personalcomputing.portrait.com/us/products/ls_overview.html. I would also suggest looking at liquid view which increases icons. Hope that helps :)
