I am not versed in clone computer as I only use HP. I'm setting up a IBM Deskstar Model DTLA-307045 and need the numbers to key in at the Microtrend BIOS page under the Delete button.

The drive CHS is 16383/16/63

The AutoDetect that the clone has obviously doesn't work, it detects 255 Heads.

Is there a web page that lists all those numbers that you should key in under the BIOS setting w/ USER defined?

Because, right now, the current setting is:

Cylinder 5607 <-- (the stupid BIOS come up w/ this number, I didn't key it in)

Head 16, Sector 63 Size 46119 <--these 3 settings are correct

But I can't see how the cylinder be 5607 consider the print
out from IBM said 16383.

But I don't think that Megatrend bios allows me to key in a 5 dight number.

I did manage to key in 16383 under Cyl Comp Write, whatever that does.

What I really need is a web site to tell me the all the numbers I should key in under USER defined. Is there such a web site?

Linux uses CHS=5606/255/63 for this drive. However, it should be used in LBA mode - CHS is outdated. Autodetect should be fine for long enough to get it into Windows, where it's redetected anyways.

In the end, turns out it was auto-detect that screw it up. The setting was incorrect, thus, I can't boot up even w/ xp repairing the boot record etc.

After I found the right setting, the computer recognize the hard drive but I still have to low level format and re-install the whole thing.

Thanks for your help though
