Need help on a good choice.

I am bored so I will answer, you of corse can completely ignore this if you like.

I skipped the entire prescott/P4 series because they are furnaces. Your cpu dissapates 120W easy and with an overclock you can easily exceed the 150W the marketing blurb claims that heatsink is designed for. BTW notice how there are all these "neat" techical terms but no hard data. Perhaps there is on the manuf site and I encourage you to go look fpr it.

Anywho, I use water cooling for all my systems but have recently been doing extream overclocks on my new Conroe (Intel E6300 core 2 duo) processor and have been closely watching these forums and several others.

The scythe line is extreamly popular and seems to be a favorite with the hardcore air overclockers.

look at this thread which shows the most recent highest overclocks and what heatsink was used, You will quicly see there is a limited number of high end air heatsinks that are favorites.

Thanks for the reply, Im looking for somthing super good and im thinking that thread will help 100% but people please throw in some stuff for me to look at! Thanks again

Scythe Infinity>Thermalright SI-128>Scythe Ninja. Those are basically the top choices, though you'll need a high-flow fan to get the best results from the Infinity and SI-128.

how about a SI-128 with a 120 aerocool fan? what should my temps be with this prescott that i have.

No idea of the actual temps, but I do know that it'll be relatively cool for a Prescott, and it'll definitely be a massive improvement over stock. For airflow you should be looking at around 60-80CFM, so if that Aerocool fits the bill then it should do fine.

I have that exact setup with the Aerocool Extreme 89cfm fan..they have 16 blades which provides more pressure which works well with the SI-128. My X2 4400+@2.5 is idling at 32c as we speak. Your prescott is going to be hotter but the SI-128 can handle it.

edit- I intended to use a spare Zalman fanmate to slow the fan down but I found the noise to be more than bearable full speed. (and performs much better)
