Need help O/Cing a 3000+

Guys,

I have tried O/cing my video card and have found it to be fun as hell.

No clue on doing the same to my CPU. Everytime I make a change, I loose video and have to clear the BIOS. Obviously I have no clue.

I have a Soyo KY400 Platinum with a 3000+ 333mhz.
Also have 512 of PC2700 Crucial ram.

All I really want is to know what first steps to take so that I can find the sweet spot with this system.

Is the processor unlocked? ie. can you change the multiplier in BIOS or just the FSB?

well, since there isn't any headroom in your RAM. Your only shot is if your CPU is unlocked.

Your currently at 166FSB x 13(ratio/multipler) = 2,158MHz (AMD XP 3000+)

Now, if your CPU is unlocked, you can change the ratio.

Try a CPU ratio of 13.5 first, 166 x 13.5 = 2,241MHz

If your CPU is locked, then you changing the ratio from 13 to 13.5 won't do squat.

I have not attempted to change the ratio. Would this tell me if is unlocked?

yes, set the ratio to 13.5 or 14, and if your speed goes up, then its unlocked. if the CPU is locked, then changing the ratio won't do squat.

Hi,

I changes the ratio to 13.5, and then rebooted. As soon as I got out of the Bios, I lost my video and did nothing else.

I was forced to clear the Bios. Sound like it is locked then?

hmm, sounds like it, or you bios crapped out. Any way, could you pull your heatsink off and give us the info on the little black sticker on the chip itself? That would tell us for sure.
