My hp 740b won't reconize any blank disks ... be it cd or dvd ... it will read all disks but when i try to burn something it says there is no disk . I tried updating the firmware from hp's site ... but nothing still could it be from some kind of update for windows that I installed or something ,,,, Any ideas please!!!!! or is there anyone who has experenced the same problem ? thanks for the help ... I am just stumpped and gettin really aggravated

it could be your discs that you're using? or maybe something isn't plugged in all the way be it ide or power idk

I've checked the connections power and such... I've used memorex cdr and dvd-+ and ritek media also .... all the blank media ive tried is all media that ive used already with great success ... both my drives a lite-on sohd-167T dvd rom (slave drive on primary ide channel) and a HP lightscribe 740b writer just stopped reconizing blank discs ... ( it says there is no disc in drive )
This is my dads computer w/ windows 2000pro sp4 ... and he says that he did'nt install any new updates ...
At first i thought it was maybe a software issue . Im using nero for burning and lightscribe and always without a problem ... so I tried reinstalling nero... and still the same problem ...
Any ideas would Very much appreciated
thankyou
Dominic

no...it's not that. i have the very same issue...found this thread and had to post that i have an identical problem. i've tried EVERYTHING except making the HP the master (dvd rw and a dvd on this sys) and uninstalling and reinstalling the actual drive itself (2 birds with 1 stone). i'll keep ya posted if it works. meantime, good luck and thanks any and everyone for advise/hints.
