Need help/New Build

Hey guys I just built my first PC and seem to have ran into a problem. When I start my computer it always comes to a blackish screen that says;

Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting
Press F1 to Run setup
Press F2 to load default values and continue.

If I press F2 I can start my os fine, I have already installed it and it runs fine. If I press F1 I go into the Bios. Is there something I am supposed to change in there to pass this screen?

A little background on what I have done. I just installed my os, I haven't done any sort of bios update or used the cd that came with the MB. I just installed XP. Was I supposed to do this, or was I supposed to update the bios first?

My hardware is
Asus m3a32 Motherboard (bios says america megatrends)
Phenom processor
Corsair 620 watt psu
2 gb g skill ram
And for video I am using a old pci express card (because I don't have a built in vga port)

I am also noticing that my selections do not save in the bios. For example I selected to start with num lock off and I saved it, but when I go back in its set to ON. Also the time and date are both wrong.

Really hope I can get this fixed. Thanks
 
hmm seems to be what I find when I search google also. Is this something common with this motherboard? I have had several computers for years and have never had to change a battery in one of them. This was a brand new motherboard is it common for them not to work out of the box like that? Also I am reading my manual about how to change it and it mentions moving jumpers to clear things out, would I need to do all that or just replace the battery itself?
 
Some motherboards throw a specific error when the CMOS battery is dead or weak. So after you throw a new one in, they recommend hard clearing the CMOS (some motherboards have buttons, some have jumpers) for 10-30 seconds (it varies). I don't think it's necessary for your board if it's not specifically telling you that it's weak/dead. But I'm not positive.
 
Ok I replaced the battery I also moved the jumpers as it said in the manual. It let me set the time and date and it stayed but I tried changing the Num lock and it always sets it to ON no matter what, I still get the message to press F2 to begin. Any other ideas?
 
Hey kevinzak I got it! Thanks for the help. I went ahead and installed the asus utility and then downloaded the new Bios. I probably should have done that first to begin with. It may or may not have been the cmos, but I guess it doesn't hurt having a new battery installed. I sure was nervous updating the bios though because earlier today the power cut off randomly for a split second. Glad it's done. Thanks again.
